Karen Cheung is jelly’s November Artist of the Month

jelly are proud to announce Karen Cheung as November Artist Of The Month.

Karen has been providing her beautifully complex and humorous illustrations and animations to the jelly collective for a while now. Her illustration style is best described using words like silly and quirky, it is mainly inspired by her background in zoology and her endless fascination for the grotesque. Her work ranges from highly-finished detailed artwork and animations to more basic character development. Karen’s commercial animation portfolio includes loads of Paramount Comedy Channel idents and outdoor events pieces for Investec Finance.

Karen won the Macmillan Prize for Children’s Picture Book Illustration in 2005 and was shortlisted for the BBC New Animator Award in 2004. Her short films have been shown at the London, Bristol, Melbourne and Lisbon International Animation Festivals. Karen has also produced work for Egg, Virgin Media, Peugeot GTI and Swiftcover. She came 2nd in our recent Halloween competition.

Artist Update : Poked Studio

poke_blog-copy1Our lovely jelly ball AKA Poked Studio does some of our favourite artwork, so we thought we’d give him a shout on the blog.

He created a web banner for jayisgames.com (a casual games website) featuring his typical character style… it was even turned into a poster (top image).

He was also commissioned by various other online art print sites to produce 3 poster scenes: ‘power up mushrooms’, ‘good morning forest’ and ‘clouds revenge’ were the result (bottom 3 images).

Poked Studio has also been busy with his international clients, including creativity magazine (USA), Astral TV in Canada and a jazz band in Hong Kong!

We’ve just had a new batch of jelly badges printed, with Poked Studio’s design on one of them – so keep an eye out!!

Alison in the Creative Circle Annual

artem_blog

Our lady with the magical hands, Alison Carmichael, recently did an ad for the special effects company Artem to go inside the Creative Circle Annual.

Mark Denton both designed and directed the beano-stylee artwork… nice!

Neil illustrates Havana Club

Our jelly baby Neil has been commissioned to do a set of illustrations based heavily on composition and the themes behind each of Havana Clubs range of drinks. He moved away from his usual complexity to produce clean and direct compositions that will communicate the message quickly across all medias with ease.
This is just one piece from the set and each will be turned into a TV spot to reflect the drinks taste and heritage… more of this soon. Bottoms up!
