Sim came to say hello!

sim

Yesterday, we received a visit from our friend & illustrator Sim Marriott.

He flew all the way from Cornwall (yes, MILES away!) to visit jelly towers; check out his portfolio and tell us about what he’s been up to; oh, and drink our tea. Of course.

He reminded us that some of his work is currently being displayed on one of our client’s websites.  Our friends at DDB UK are showcasing their campaign for Kwik-Fit featuring Sim’s fantastic illustrated characters.  You can check it out here!

We can’t wait for Sim to come and visit us again!!

Added 31st July ‘09:

Hello folks!

Thanks to the wonderful people at D&AD, we’ve had a HUGE response to our request for helping hands.  Our calendar is booked up to Christmas with work experience placements, which sadly means we cannot offer any more for the time being.

But, do not fear!  Continue to send in your applications; We’ll keep them on file until we have some cancellations and/or it’s the New Year and we’ll be looking for another bunch of enthusiastic people to join us!

Michaela.

new directors bl:nd – animation for GAP

“Black and White” utilizes light and shadow to convey the opposing themes of the piece, including love/hate, life/death, young/old, daydream/nightmare, and ugliness/beauty. The narrative unfolds through an innovative mix of shadow puppetry and animation, as two-dimensional characters come alive in a colourless world, underscored by The Raveonettes’ haunting vocals.
A majority of the elements used in the video were shot in-camera, and puppeteers’ hands and rigging are often left in the shots to create a more spontaneous and organic aesthetic. The piece retains its whimsy through unexpected visuals, references to the beloved Danish fairy tales of Sune’s youth, and a richly textured physical and emotional landscape that can only be fully experienced after multiple viewings.

Poked Studio is Artist of the Month!!

Poked Studio is one of the most unique artists in our jelly roster, providing us with illustrations and animations that are both vibrant and contemporary. He describes his style as “graphical fun… with a bit of darkness here and there”, often combining both 3D and 2D to bring his surreal ideas to life.

Poked Studio_banner

Poked Studio’s main inspiration comes from video-game graphics and cartoons; something which shines through in his scenes of underwater worlds and outer space battles. Most of his work is heavily character driven, and uses textures and small details to create exciting and funny characters which ooze with personality and charm.

His unique style has attracted attention from Sony PSP, MTV, Doritos and the BBC online, as well as FHM and Computer Arts magazines.  When he’s not working on high-profile campaigns, he designs bespoke artwork for companies such as String Republic shoes and Rossignol snowboards.

You can view a selection of his 2D, 3D and motion stills on our Artist of the Month website: www.jellylondon.com/aotm

J.A.S.O.N. H.A.T.C.H.E.T!

Last week, we received an e-mail from our jelly baby Damien with a link for youtube and the words “No Tom Sellecks were harmed in the making of his music video, promise”…

Above is what we witnessed… a fantastic, catchy music video including all of the possible Rock ‘n’ Roll clichés: dancing robots, decapitation, Mother Teresa, unicorns, pirates, Hitler, Sir Trevor McDonald and a drumming Darth Vader!

Enjoy.

Fatville – jelly animate the obesity debate

jelly were asked by McCann London to produce a series of short animations in a style that was a cross between traditional British comics like Beano and Family Guy…

“Everything seen should feel strange but not freakish” they said.

“Hmmm….” we said, that sounds like a job for our Karen Cheung.

The films were to go online to raise awareness of the creeping tide of obesity that is about to turn us all into useless lard-arses. Karen did all the character development and animated the project as a series of short animations which were published like an animated online soap.

Lovely…
