The future of advertising…in one afternoon

Jelly owner, Chris Page, with over 20 years’ experience in the business, joined other Advertisers Producers Association (APA) members in the Future of Advertising debate, which was hosted at BAFTA. This event related to the collaborative ‘creative industry’ learning and sharing delegation trip to Silicon Valley back in March.

the future of advertising... in one afternoon

It was an incredibly eye-opening afternoon. As key speakers from diverse and niche areas within the creative sectors spoke, it became clearer that there is no one simple answer to the future of advertising, rather there are many evolving advances in technology which are directly affecting consumer habits and whether we like it or not, mobile optimisation (all content needs to be suitable for mobile interaction), tracking data (data is fundamental to measuring campaign success rates and many agencies and brands live by their analytics stats) and finally, dual screen engagement (one TV screen is no longer enough, consumers want to research, share and interact on their second tablet or mobile screen today) cannot, and must not, be ignored.

Pears and Honey for Ballantine’s Scotch Whisky

Computer Arts Mag have published a behind the scenes article on Steven Bonner.

pears and honey for ballantine’s scotch whisky

“The Scottish illustrator brought pears, honey and more to life and created a bespoke typeface to boot in this thirst-quenching project for Ballantine’s Scotch Whisky. Award-winning illustrator Steven Bonner worked with digital agency Work Club to design an illustrated animation and typeface for Ballantine’s 12 Year Old, a premium Scotch Whisky. Briefed to illustrate the seven main tasting notes – vanilla, cream, clementine, berries, oak, pear and honey – as illuminated letters, Bonner treated each as an “exercise in expressive drawing”, with each letter telling the story of its own flavour.”

It’s been too long Job, Joris and Marieke!

Job, Joris & Marieke have applied their uncanny style with some charming 3D characters to a music video, “Duurt te Lang” (Been too Long) by Dutch hip-hop artist Fit.

it's been too long job, joris and marieke!

Their fine 3D work has today featured on StashMediaTV! Here is what Job, Joris & Marieke have said about the piece… “So we had the song about a relationship that’s been going on far too long, it should have finished a long while ago but neither of them can let go, so they get stuck with each other.”

They chose to explore the ongoing domestic between the characters yet with their time constraints, (as in – they did not have time to animate the creatures fighting for a whole three minutes…) they decided to create the song in slow motion. This makes the piece more dramatic and intense. We like it and so do Stash Media!

Pick Me Up 2013 Graphic Arts Festival

Our Head of Illustration, Nicki headed to the Private View of Pick Me Up 2013 and she has written a little review for all you enthusiastic creative types…

pick me up 2013 graphic arts festival

“Pick me up at Somerset House opened last week – the industry private view last Wednesday.  In it’s first year, Pick Me Up filled a gap in the creative industry events calendar as the first – and only – graphic arts fair, showcasing the best of our industry which we know so well and packaging it up towards the public.  Such was the industry hunger for the show, the private view was jam-packed and rave reviews flowed.

It’s now the third year in and Pick Me Up is still going strong. Much less a resource for industry folk, the Pick Me Up selects of 2013 had a strong curation but few artists who are industry newbies, but strong and very worthy nonetheless.  Workshops and spaces industry stalwarts such as Nelly Duff and Print Club gave an insight what’s usually a closed circuit and offered up graphic arts / design / illustration for wider consumption.

So perhaps, as we insiders become less excited by the show, it’s actually doing its job – opening up the ‘scene’ for a far wider audience and making our art of illustration and design engaging for everyone else with an interest in it.”
