Through Winkreative, a global branding, design and content agency LEXUS have launched a magazine for their readers and customers. Their cars embody luxury so, true to their brand, this magazine, (which is printed on the finest quality paper by the way) is promoting not only automotive but LEXUS’ new range of luxury items including leather goods, sunglasses and nifty gadgets, which appeal to the sophisticated consumer.

Jo Bird was to illustrate a selection of these products for the first issue of the magazine with a parchment paper and water coloured finish to her illustrations. Jo had to be very specific with the details and colours of each individual illustration but the creatives were thrilled and the issue has just gone to press.

The label oozes heritage, born originally on the banks of the River Spey in 1897. It ran for over one hundred years until outside influences forced it’s grave closure. However, the good news is that the popularity of the label prevailed and back in 2012 distillery was re-opened and thus Tamdhu was re-born. But it needed a new look. This is the part where Steven Bonner was able to turn his skilled hand to a brand that deserved the very best design and art direction.

It was an incredibly eye-opening afternoon. As key speakers from diverse and niche areas within the creative sectors spoke, it became clearer that there is no one simple answer to the future of advertising, rather there are many evolving advances in technology which are directly affecting consumer habits and whether we like it or not, mobile optimisation (all content needs to be suitable for mobile interaction), tracking data (data is fundamental to measuring campaign success rates and many agencies and brands live by their analytics stats) and finally, dual screen engagement (one TV screen is no longer enough, consumers want to research, share and interact on their second tablet or mobile screen today) cannot, and must not, be ignored.

“The Scottish illustrator brought pears, honey and more to life and created a bespoke typeface to boot in this thirst-quenching project for Ballantine’s Scotch Whisky. Award-winning illustrator Steven Bonner worked with digital agency Work Club to design an illustrated animation and typeface for Ballantine’s 12 Year Old, a premium Scotch Whisky. Briefed to illustrate the seven main tasting notes – vanilla, cream, clementine, berries, oak, pear and honey – as illuminated letters, Bonner treated each as an “exercise in expressive drawing”, with each letter telling the story of its own flavour.”
