Sawdust commissioned by Creative Review for 2013 Annual

Sawdust were commissioned by the editorial team at Creative Review to create a typographic piece to go with an article based on the perils of working for oneself.

Rob and Jonathon searched for something in the rather humorous article that sparked their interest and struck and all too familiar ‘creative nerve’… The ‘building blocks of creativity’ and cycle referred to as ‘never ending creative destructive behaviour’ was an inspirational and relatable idea for Sawdust to carve a composition from.

The future of advertising…in one afternoon

Jelly owner, Chris Page, with over 20 years’ experience in the business, joined other Advertisers Producers Association (APA) members in the Future of Advertising debate, which was hosted at BAFTA. This event related to the collaborative ‘creative industry’ learning and sharing delegation trip to Silicon Valley back in March.

the future of advertising... in one afternoon

It was an incredibly eye-opening afternoon. As key speakers from diverse and niche areas within the creative sectors spoke, it became clearer that there is no one simple answer to the future of advertising, rather there are many evolving advances in technology which are directly affecting consumer habits and whether we like it or not, mobile optimisation (all content needs to be suitable for mobile interaction), tracking data (data is fundamental to measuring campaign success rates and many agencies and brands live by their analytics stats) and finally, dual screen engagement (one TV screen is no longer enough, consumers want to research, share and interact on their second tablet or mobile screen today) cannot, and must not, be ignored.

JWT Charity Print Auction

Earlier this year, our head of new business Dan meet with Brittany Littlewood at JWT; as we donated two prints by Damien Weighill and Matt Johnstone for a charity auction in aid of a great challenge she took part in, she agreed to write a guest blog post us! Here’s what she said…

“When an email flew around the office inviting employees to apply to be part of the JWT team for the Borneo Kinabalu Challenge, which was to involve a week of cycling, running, white water rafting, kayaking and jungle living topped off by climbing Mt. Kinabalu, the tallest mountain in SE Asia, I pretty much jumped out of my seat with excitement. I had to do it.

Six months down the line, I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences of my life and it will no doubt hold that place forever. The Kinabalu Challenge can’t really be summed up in words, you have to experience it to appreciate it fully, but I’ve tried to pick out some of the finest moments in hope to offer a glimpse of our time in Borneo. Dan has picked his favourite motion piece of the minute…

Dan has picked his favourite motion piece of the minute again. Here’s what Mr. Mallers said, in his very own words…

Paddy Power advert

“Good Afternoon all. This week I have selected work from Crispin Porter & Bogusky’s creative pair; Christian Brestrup and Bertie Scrase. Their Paddy Power advert featuring a puppet Kim Jun On is fantastic.

To create an advert that is hilarious “I’m Sunderland til you die”, original and push the boundaries of what some might consider in good taste ticks all the boxes. Great work.”
