Driving Luxury with a LEXUS

Jelly London’s incredibly talented illustrator, Jo Bird has just completed a pretty classy editorial piece for the launch of a new magazine by luxury car brand, LEXUS.

Through Winkreative, a global branding, design and content agency LEXUS have launched a magazine for their readers and customers. Their cars embody luxury so, true to their brand, this magazine, (which is printed on the finest quality paper by the way) is promoting not only automotive but LEXUS’ new range of luxury items including leather goods, sunglasses and nifty gadgets, which appeal to the sophisticated consumer.

Jo Bird was to illustrate a selection of these products for the first issue of the magazine with a parchment paper and water coloured finish to her illustrations. Jo had to be very specific with the details and colours of each individual illustration but the creatives were thrilled and the issue has just gone to press.

The only award dedicated to rising young directors

Jelly London’s creative director, that’s the one and only Charlie Sells – if you didn’t know – has been selected as the 2013 UK Judge for the Young Director’s Award.

the only award dedicated to rising young directors

Charlie, along with 19 other key creative industry leaders will be sifting through every entry before she votes for her favourites in the categories of Broadcast, Test Commercial, Film School, Branded Short Film, Webfilm, Music Video, Animation and Video Art.

The YDA is the only award specifically dedicated to beginners. As a result, the award has become a pioneer breaking ground for directors using new technologies and progressive techniques.

The Young Director Award is recognized as the most important fringe event of the Cannes Lions, attracting over 400 participants and over 900 spectators every year. This gives much exposure to the winning directors which will be announced in Cannes which Chris, Pippa and Charile will all be attending.

Pick Me Up 2013 Graphic Arts Festival

Our Head of Illustration, Nicki headed to the Private View of Pick Me Up 2013 and she has written a little review for all you enthusiastic creative types…

pick me up 2013 graphic arts festival

“Pick me up at Somerset House opened last week – the industry private view last Wednesday.  In it’s first year, Pick Me Up filled a gap in the creative industry events calendar as the first – and only – graphic arts fair, showcasing the best of our industry which we know so well and packaging it up towards the public.  Such was the industry hunger for the show, the private view was jam-packed and rave reviews flowed.

It’s now the third year in and Pick Me Up is still going strong. Much less a resource for industry folk, the Pick Me Up selects of 2013 had a strong curation but few artists who are industry newbies, but strong and very worthy nonetheless.  Workshops and spaces industry stalwarts such as Nelly Duff and Print Club gave an insight what’s usually a closed circuit and offered up graphic arts / design / illustration for wider consumption.

So perhaps, as we insiders become less excited by the show, it’s actually doing its job – opening up the ‘scene’ for a far wider audience and making our art of illustration and design engaging for everyone else with an interest in it.”
